With all the rain that we’ve been having I’m reminded of the rhymes I used to sing when I was little. In England it rained a lot, and it usually rained for days at a time, something that I’ve not been used to since I’ve been in the tropics. We would for some time have daily rain, but it would last for few hours and then be done for the day. The past few days of torrential rain have been very reminiscent of childhood.
This isn’t a bad thing because we do desperately need the rain. We’ve had a drought for quite some time. However I’ve been tempted a few times to sing the rhyme that I used to when I was little.
Rain, rain go away, come again another day
I realize that this was a form of spell casting. My friends and I were attempting to impose our will on the natural forces by use of this short and simple rhyme, and to think my grandmother was very anti-witchcraft and there are all these little things that we used to do that were forms of witchery.
