Semi-Precious Stone: Amethyst

We selected Amethyst for the month of February as it is the February birth stone, and is linked astrologically with Pisces and astronomically with Jupiter and Neptune.

Amethyst is one of the most recognized stones given its long history with religious practices. The Ancient Egyptians included instructions for placing heart-shaped pieces of amethyst into bodies of the deceased. In China amethyst was rented to those involved in lawsuits as it was said to attract a favorable outcome. The Chaldean Magi used the stone to protect against evil sorcery and bring good luck and understanding of hidden knowledge.

Physical Nature

Amethyst is crystalline quartz ranging in color from pale lilac to deep purple. The pale colors can be in Victorian jewelry, whereas deep colors are more valuable.

Amethyst is mined in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Namibia, Uruguay and Zambia. South American amethyst is larger in sizes but African amethyst is known for having better color.

Mystical Workings & Crystal Healing

Amethyst is wonderful for healing, and is for cleansing the 7th or Crown Chakra as it is a great touch stone being of the quartz family and in clusters can be used to cleanse other crystals. It is well-used to help absorb nervous energy, promote calm and ward off danger. It has a soothing effect on people and promotes healthy sleeping habits when placed under a pillow.  It attracts justice and protects against burglars and thieves.

If you store a small piece of amethyst with divination tools it will keep their power level high as it strengthens and develops intuition and raises thoughts and aspirations to a higher spiritual level. It can help break up old emotional thought processes and assist in grounding before opening yourself psychically. The stone has transmutational energy and helps to open gateways into intense spiritual experiences. It is known to protect the wearer from black magic.

As far as healing uses as well as the chakra alignments it is said to alleviate migraines, calm mental disorders and purify the blood and immune system when worn and when a geode is placed in a room it can help prevent nervous headaches.

Market Day

We will be at North Lake Flea Market again tomorrow.

Come check us out!

We have two new teas: Recovery and Licorice, and a new blend of our Clarity Tea.

The Recovery tea has echinacea and raspberry leaf along with two different kinds of green tea. The Licorice tea is a black tea with licorice root. Clarity, is a light variation on the original, it has two different green teas, lemongrass and peppermint.

We also have some new jewelry to offer. We have some different charm necklaces:

Our friend Zack (who makes our wood-burned runes) has made some larger runes to be put on necklaces and key chains. We have some on hand, but you can also special order specific runes for necklaces, earrings or key chains and they’ll be ready for you by next market day, or can be shipped to you. Please allow one week from time of request.

We’ve also been experimenting with some ring and earring designs:

We’ve had several requests for earrings for non-pierced ears and have acquired the appropriate backs to make those earrings. If there are earrings you see that you would like to have for your non-pierced ears we’re happy to switch out the hooks or make a new pair in similar style.

Good Scents

We received our first wholesale order, and the house smells so great. It was such fun to open the shipment and the mixture of scents which wafted out of the box and around the house. It was great. It reminded me of when we used to go past Stogies when I was in college and the scent of tobacco was in a sort of cloud in the street which smelled so good.

As it is the next project we have is to organize our supplies and sort out what sort of mixes we’re going to offer and for what purpose. We have a lot of herbs that are really good for use in protective charms; but there a good majority of them are useful in seasoning dishes and also in making herbal teas. I’m very excited to start making potions and teas; as well as sampling the various teas that another wholesaler sent to us. We tried out something called Coconut Pouchong last week and it was really good.

Partridge?

Well, we have no partridges but our pear tree seems to be doing really well despite that.

Since Kore cleared the branches a lot of new growth has sprouted, which is the first time I’ve seen the tree active since we moved in; before that hubbie and I thought it was dead and it was another on our long list of “things to remove once we had money”; but now I think the tree will be fine. It’s not just leafy growth either, we have blossoms as well.

Of course once the blossoms are done is when we’ll find out if we’re right about it being a pear tree or not–it could still be an apple tree. It seems like everything Kore touches springs into life, our herb garden is going crazy. I’ll post pictures of that in a little while. In the mean time it’s back to the grindstone for me. I’ve been trying to catch up on a lot of things on my three days off this week. It’s not as though I’ve been slacking off at the Riviera hotel but I wish I could have. There’s been shopping that needed to be done and various doctors appointments, all which had to be crammed into the last two days. I’m hoping I’ll be better able to plan things in future weeks as I get used to what’s going on.
